FliByFow Quick Reviews Presents: Bayonetta

Bayonetta is the latest game by Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe creator Hideki Kamiya, Bayonetta is literally a game for the fans, it was created with the Japanese gaming audience in mind even down to the small gaming refferences this game throws at you every now and again, but anyway, lets get down to the basics.

Plot:

Bayonetta has an albeit translucent plot, you play as the titucular Bayonetta is an Umbran Witch who fights hordes of heavenly creatures in her search for the Left eye of the World, a Jewel which combined with her Umbran right eye allows the user to reign as a god. The game goes on about Umbran Witches and Lumen Sages and Demons, There are 2 other characters, a love interest "Luka" and a young girl called Cereza who refers to Bayonetta as "Mommy", but it all gets incredibly confusing, vague and it feels like no effort was put to the actual plot.

Gameplay:

The Gameplay in Bayonetta is very seamless and at times quite intense with her over-the-top kicks, flips and combo and the fact she wields 4 revolvers at once is the icing on the cake, this is what i would say is the main attraction to Bayonetta, because it is certainly not the "involving" storyline.

Graphics:

The Graphics in Bayonetta are resonable, flashes of Red and gold fly when she kicks and fires her revolvers, there are also some nice looking environments and well designed end-bosses, some parts do look unpolished though.

Sound:

"Fly me to the Moon, let me play amongst the stars...", Bayonetta has an enjoyable Soundtrack with music that really fits with the games theme, the voice acting isnt terrible, Bayonetta is very well spoken but Cereza can be annoying at times.

Cutscenes:

The Cutscenes in Bayonetta are actually small bits of Cinematic Art, the opening is so over the top you actually start to question what you are watching, there are some fun refferences to Resident Evil and Viewtiful joe, but it is a shame that the epic cutscenes turn into still panel scenes with dialogue...

In Closing:

In Closing i felt that Bayonetta had just missed the mark, it was just below epic, with a tad more development, more story progression and more work Bayonetta could have been a huge staple in 2010, potential Game of the Year. But alas, it seemed like it just fell at the final hurdle.

The Score:

Plot: 3

Gameplay: 8

Graphics: 7

Sound: 8

Cutscenes: 9

I Give Bayonetta a score of: 7.1

The DSi LL/XL. My Impressions.

Boy, that was quick. a new DSi itteration already?

Nintendo DSi LL/Xl, the giant-mecha sized Handheld update thats being advertised to you and your grandparents. When i first saw this new itteration i instantly thought, boy this will be a waste of money, this is nintendo cashing in on its adult audience.

but after watching a few videos, looking up a few pictures and reviews and seeing games run on it, i can safely say i have been converted, the screens are absolutely massive, boasting two 4.2 inch wide-angle view LCD screens, it really does seem to transform your games.

Heres a few comparison pictures;

The DSiLL with the DSi:

Another with The DSiLL right next to a DSi:

So adding to this blog i can say, i'm really busting my chops waiting for this to come out. It just seems like such a premium DS and with the imminent Heart Gold and Soul Silver release...

So in wrapping up this post i can say, ive got mine pre-ordered and i will do a hands on/unboxing video on the 5th of March, See you then.

PSPgo; a treachorous road of Seclusion and Alienation

Well, this will be my first blogpost, but i thought i would start with something i was pondering just recently, sure everyone is praising Sony for going down a new route with their recently released PSPgo, but is innovation always the path to success?

the original PSP has sold over 10 Million units since its launch in 2005, a number which is modest to say the least but sony were still quite humble, when rumours unearthed that there would be a new PSP without the UMD drive alot of people were sceptical right up until it being announced at E3 2009, the PSPGo, the Download only PSP with an internal HDD for the storage of full PSP games from day one.

In theory this should have opened up a bright new pasture on its handheld market share, but all it did was alienate people from a wealth of good, cheap games and instead forced them into downloading Old PSP games at full RRP with crazy download times.

Sony did alot of things wrong with the PSPGo marketing-wize, like the marketing campaign... Exactly, there wasnt one, and the price was knee-weakening for something that you couldnt go into a store and buy games for, from Sony's side, its a retail suicide.

If you read this, your thoughts please.

Also just for refference, i have a PSP and a PSPGo.
